CPOC Reviews Jackup Bids

CPOC has now received bids from contractors for its tender for a jackup to conduct the Phase IV development project in Blocks B17 and C-19 in the Joint Development Area between Malaysia and Thailand. The workscope is 30 wells for the firm period scheduled to commence in March or April 2018. The firm duration will be around 18 months with four 3-month options available. Vantage jackup Aquamarine Driller is currently on charter to CPOC until March 2018.

Petronas Awards One-Well Contract To PV Drilling

PV Drilling has been awarded a one-well contract from Petronas Cagigali for a 34-day well off Malaysia. Jackup PV Drilling III (400'-IC) will begin work once it completes its current contract for Thang Long JOC, which is expected shortly. Unless further work is secured, the rig will be complete the Petronas work in early October and will be idle until March 2018 when it will undertake a one-year plus one-year option, six-well program in the Bunga Pakma Field in Block CAA PM3 for Repsol Sinopec.

PV Drilling Awarded KrisEnergy Contract

Market sources say that PV Drilling has been awarded the 90-day contract from KrisEnergy. Drilling with jackup PV Drilling I (350'-IC) will take place in the Wassana Field in Block G10/48 starting on 09-10/2017. The rig has just completed a contract.

International Petroleum Corp Plans For Malaysia Wells

International Petroleum Corp of Sweden, a newly formed spin off company from Lundin Petroleum, has approved a two well drilling program in the Bertam field in PM307, but is still pending partners approval. However Lundin has already tendered for a jackup for the two development wells on the Bertam platform which it hopes to commence in October this year.

PVEP Planning For One Well Program

In Vietnam PVEP POC are planning a one well jackup program for Block 15-1/05 for 2018. This would be phase 2 of the exploration period of the PSC. The block was formerly operated by Phu Quy POC who made two discoveries using Vantage jackup Topaz Driller back in 2010. Water depths are 48m and partners in the block are now PVEP with 40%, Murphy with 35% and SK Energy with 25%.

Lundin Malaysia Review Jackup Bids

Lundin have taken in bids against their tender for a jackup for a 2 development well charter to begin in the second half of September or the first half of October this year. A 400ft capable rig is required to drill the wells off the Bertam platform in Block PM307. The duration of the charter is estimated at 3 months. Lundin last drilled in the block in 2015 using Seadrill jackup West Prospero.

Pertamina Tender Updates

Pertamina Hulu Mahakam’s tender for two swamp barges for 1+1 year terms starting in early 2018 is drawing near to a year in gestation and is still in the technical evaluation stage. It remains difficult to comprehend why it takes so long. The tender requires Indonesian ownership which puts Apexindo in pole position with a choice of three suitable Indonesian flagged rigs that have worked for in Mahakam field for a decade of more and therefore hardly un-known technically. Aban Deep Driller 5 Preparing For Shell

Another arrival in Singapore, Aban jackup Deep Driller 5, has entered Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard shipyard where it will undergo contract preparations ahead of its 5-year plus 3–year options charter with Shell Brunei which is expected to commence in November this year. After completing a charter with Vietsovpetro then being stacked in Indonesia since April 2015 the rig completed a short term contract with Cairn in India.

Total to Acquire Maersk Oil and Gas Business for $7.5 billion

Total (TOTF.PA) is buying Maersk's oil and gas business in a $7.45 billion deal which the French major said would strengthen its operations in the North Sea and raise its output to 3 million barrels per day by 2019. For Danish company A.P. Moller Maersk (MAERSKb.CO), the sale of Maersk Oil, with reserves equivalent to around 1 billion barrels of oil, fits with a strategy of focusing on its shipping business and other activities announced last year. Baker Hughes Bending Over Backwards For Twinza

Twinza Oil has taken on Baker Hughes in what is claimed to be the world’s first “full-stream” agreement for the development of the Pasca-A gas field in PPL 328. The agreement includes drilling services, subsea equipment, gas processing topsides, gas compression and turbomachinery, and installation and commissioning services as well as Baker Hughes also assist-ed Twinza with a financial solution to allow the company to complete appraisal drilling and proceed to FID. KS Drilling JU3 Completes Jacking Tests

KS Drilling’s F&G JU2000E design jackup KS Drilling JU3 has completed its jacking tests at the Shang-hai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) yard in Nantong in China. The rig was ordered August 2013 and is currently set for delivery at the end of this year, though whether that takes place is moot given that KSD have recently pushed back another jackup delivery until end 2019.

Murphy Vietnam Seeking Approval To Drill

After cutting short a 2-well drilling program by drilling only one well in block 11-2/11 with PV Drilling jackup PV Drilling II back in May, Murphy in Vietnam are now seeking approval to drill the second well this quarter or when approval is received. PVD II is not available until December at the earliest but Murphy will take either PVD I or PVD III both of which are available later this month.

Repsol’s Vietnam Tender Continues To Progress

Repsol’s tender for a floater for its Ca Rong Do drilling program in Blocks 135 & 136/03 is in the clarification stage. The 5+8 well program is due to commence in Q1 2018 in 320m water depths. The firm duration is 216 days with another 258 days potential options. Although it is a mid water requirement it is almost certain to be fulfilled with one of the region’s ultra deepwater rigs. HCML Continues To Progress With Jackup Tender

Husky-CNOOC continues to make heavy weather of the tender for a jackup for their MBH, MDA and MDK development drilling project in the Madura Sea, having now invited the six qualified contractors to pick up tender documents for their latest re-tender. A pre-bid meeting was held on 11 August and attended by representatives of Apexindo, COSL, Seadrill, JDC, KS Drilling and Shelf. Bids are now due in on 29 August. The 7+2 well program is scheduled to commence in Q4 this year.

China Gas Hydrate Program Scrapped

The Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey (GMGS), of the Geological Survey Administration under the Ministry of Land & Resources (MLR) have pulled the plug on their gas hydrate deepwater drilling program in the Pearl River Mouth Basin in the South China Sea stating they had achieved their objectives with just the first well of the campaign which was always to be intended for research purposes. PV Drilling Fleet Update

Vietsovpetro has an option to include some workovers in its contract with PV Drilling for jackup PV Drilling II which began a 4+4 well charter in the Bach Ho field offshore Vietnam in June with the firm period lasting until December. Should the options and workovers be exercised the rig will be tied up until mid 2018 at the earliest. Two other of PV Drilling’s jackups are due to complete their charters this month. PTTEP Australia To Spud In September

Noble jackup Noble Tom Prosser is en route to Darwin in Australia aboard heavy lift vessel Zhen Hua 33 which departed from Sharjah last week. The rig will arrive in Darwin late August ahead of its 60-day charter with PTTEP in the Montara field which should commence in September. The JU3000N design rig previously worked in Australia for Quadrant Energy in 2015 and was then mobilized to the Middle East in October 2016 at the conclusion of the Quadrant charter. The rig is one of only five jackups that currently have an Australian Safety Case.

PTTEP Combines Floater Tender

Probably recognizing the dearth of mid water floaters in the region PTTEP in Myanmar have combined their two drilling programs into one and issued a tender for a moored floating rig capable of working in just 200m as well as in 2000m water depths. The shallow water program is for 8 appraisal wells in slim hole mode in the Zawtika field in Blocks M9/M11, likely to last between 6-8 months and the deep-water drilling will be in Block MW-07 for between 1 and 3 wells. Commencement is set for February 2018.

Woodside Lines Up Exploration Wells

Woodside Energy has outlined plans for further exploration wells off the coast of Australia in 2018. The operator is currently using UDW semi Atwood Osprey for its 2017 drilling campaign in the region and will use the rig to drill one further exploration well this year, namely Swell-1 in WA-483-P. The rig will be let go around October, but will then return to work with the operator in March 2018. The rig is firmly scheduled to drill the Ferrand-1 exploration well in permit area WA-404-P in early 2018 and could drill another well around the same area depending on the [...]

Cue Energy Assumes BHP’s Australia Permit

Following BHP's withdrawal from permit WA-389-P in the Carnarvon Basin, Cue Energy has assumed a 100% stake in the permit. A commitment well is due by October 2018 but Cue has already applied for a suspension of the work program. Originally the permit was operated by Woodside who withdrew from the permit in 2013 after an unsuccessful drilling campaign.
