Another arrival in Singapore, Aban jackup Deep Driller 5, has entered Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard shipyard where it will undergo contract preparations ahead of its 5-year plus 3–year options charter with Shell Brunei which is expected to commence in November this year. After completing a charter with Vietsovpetro then being stacked in Indonesia since April 2015 the rig completed a short term contract with Cairn in India.
Aban jackup Deep Driller 5 has mobilized from its stack location in India to Singapore where it will enter a shipyard for modifications and preparatory work prior to commencing its 5+3 year charter with Shell in Brunei. The rig will mobilize to Brunei in October/November and is next available 2022 or 2025 if options are exercised. The rig last worked for Cairn in India but prior to that had been contracted to Vietsovpetro in Vietnam.
ONGC’s tender for eight (8) jackups has drawn bids from four (4) jackups stationed in this region and is amongst all the India based rigs that are up for renewal. Aban has offered Deep Driller 3 (stacked) and Deep Driller 8 (VSP Vietnam), Jindal offered Jindal Explorer (stacked) and Hallworthy offered under construction Vivekanand 3 which at COSCO’s yard in China. Aban Offshore have won the Brunei Shell 5-year jackup charter. The rig is the Deep Driller 5 which is stacked in India having recently completed a charter there for Cairn. The contract is set to begin in Q4 this year and has 3 years of options which if exercised would keep the rig busy until 2025. The rate is understood by brokers to be below $50,000 although other sources say it is $60,000 but it could be a staggered rate over the 5-year term.
