JX Nippon is also said to have selected a deepwater floater through their tender for an appraisal well to be drilled in Block R offshore Sabah in water depths that go up to 1200m. Commencement is set for Q4 this year and the charter carries a potential well test option. Partners with JX Nippon are Santos.
JX Nippon are planning a 3-well development drilling campaign in block SK-10 offshore Sarawak and are currently seeking approval to proceed with sourcing a rig. The 120 day program will be on the Helang platform and will require a tender assist unit with commencement in 2018. JX Nippon last drilled on the platform in 2016 using semi-tender SKD Berani.
JX Nippon began commercial gas production from the Layang field in Block SK10 offshore Sarawak. The field is just 7km east of the producing Helang field and both will now supply gas via subsea pipe-lines to the LNG plant in Bintulu which is partly owned by the Japanese operator. JX Nippon have a 75% stake in Block SK310.
JX Nippon is still evaluating bids it also received in March for a 1+1 well drilling pro-gram in 1200m water depths in Block R offshore Sabah. Commencement of the 60-day appraisal program is also sometime in Q4 this year. At time of bid submittal bidders were said to have included Ensco, Noble, Seadrill and Atwood. JX Nippon and partner Santos have previously drilled two wells in the block.
