JDC Secures Mubadala Malaysia Contract

The region’s sole remaining operational mid water floater, Hakuryu 5, has picked up another charter, this time with Mubadala in Malaysia. Mubadala had initially joined with Shell who have just contracted the UDW semi Deepwater Nautilus which presumably did not suit Mubadala because they pulled out of the tender and went in alone. The two well charter with Mubadala in Block SK320 will commence in January and will partially fill the gap in the rigs contract portfolio between finishing with Gazprom in Sakhalin in October / November and commencing a 102 day charter with Rosneft in Vietnam in April next [...]

Pearl Oil Issues Jackup RFI

Following its July 16 MDW floating rig Request for Information (RFI), Pearl Oil (Mubadala) has now issued a similar request for a jackup to drill a well in the Makassar Strait area off Indonesia. It is understood drilling will begin in 1Q/2019 and requires a jackup that can work in around 230' of water with a 10K BOP, a TDS-3 or equivalent top drive and accommodations for up to 120. The RFI will close August 4 and it is understood Pearl is looking to come up with a cost estimate for the program.

Repsol Vietnam Caught Up In Vietnam and China Dispute

Despite all the initial secrecy surrounding the Repsol drilling program in Vietnamese Block 136-3, using Odfjell UDW drillship Deepsea Metro 1, it was inevitable that China would object to Repsol drilling in a disputed area of the South China Sea and indeed they have now forced the Vietnamese authorities to stop Repsol drilling in the block. Some reports suggest that China, rather than attacking an internationally owned drilling rig, had instead threatened to attack Vietnamese outposts in the Spratly Islands if drilling did not stop. The rig is understood to have drilled one well plus a sidetrack but is now [...]

Shell Malaysia Said To Have Selected Semi-Sub

Shell is said to have selected a moored semi-sub from its 4 well plus 8 options tender issued back in January, to work offshore Sarawak. Originally the tender had included wells for Pexco and Mubadala but both later pulled out with the latter said to have selected a separate semi for its program. Commencement is now set for September this year. Moored mid water semis in south east asia are scarce at present, only Hakuryu 5 is working, with Stena Clyde stacked in Australia since September 2015, the future of Doo Sung uncertain as KNOC consider offers they have received [...]

Pearl Indonesia Searchig For a Mid-Water Floater

Pearl Oil Sebuku have received responses to their request for information for a mid water floater for a 2 well drilling campaign in the Sebuku PSC in the Makassar Strait area. Water depths are 500m with a duration of 90 days set to commence in Q4 2018. With a requirement for 120-150 man living quarters and a preference for a DP capable 15K semi they will have drawn offers from the ultra deepwater semi fleet in the region as no existing mid water unit can match those specifications.

Mubadala Indonesia Searching for a Floater

Pearl Oil Sebuku, now part of Mubadala Petroleum, is seeking availability and rates for a mid water floater for a drilling campaign in the Makasser Straits offshore Indonesia. Pearl plans on drilling two exploration wells nearby the existing Ruby platform, with a total duration of 90 days and which is set to begin in Q4 2018. A DP semi or drillship capable of working in 505m water depths and with a 15k BOP stack is preferred. They are also asking for between 120-150 man accommodation. Not many, indeed no, mid water floaters would meet this spec which is therefore likely [...]

Mubadala Malaysia Pulls Out of Joint Tender

Mubadala Petroleum is said to have pulled out of their joint tender with Shell for a moored mid water floater following the lead of Pexco which also initially joined the rig share project but later withdrew. This will reduce the original 6 firm + 8 well options program to 4 firm wells plus the options. Mubadala is now expected to push the drilling program into 2018 and will source a rig by itself when the time comes. The Shell program was originally set to start next month but is likely now delayed until later in the year.
