In Vietnam PVEP POC are planning a one well jackup program for Block 15-1/05 for 2018. This would be phase 2 of the exploration period of the PSC. The block was formerly operated by Phu Quy POC who made two discoveries using Vantage jackup Topaz Driller back in 2010. Water depths are 48m and partners in the block are now PVEP with 40%, Murphy with 35% and SK Energy with 25%.
After cutting short a 2-well drilling program by drilling only one well in block 11-2/11 with PV Drilling jackup PV Drilling II back in May, Murphy in Vietnam are now seeking approval to drill the second well this quarter or when approval is received. PVD II is not available until December at the earliest but Murphy will take either PVD I or PVD III both of which are available later this month.
Murphy have announced that the well drilled by PV Drilling jackup PV Drilling II in block 11-2 in May this year is a shallow water oil discovery. The rig had been chartered for 2 wells but the program was cut short so that the operator could pick a new drilling location to appraise the discovery. They now intend to drill the second well this year and will use a jackup from PV Drilling.
Ensco jackup Ensco 52 has completed its farm-out to Repsol in Malaysia and is currently on standby for Murphy offshore Peninsular Malaysia while it runs down its contract due to finish at the end of this month. Upon completion of its charter the rig will be demobilized to a stack location.
NOPTA have approved Murphy Oil’s application to surrender permit WA-476-P which is locat-ed in the Carnarvon Basin. Murphy hold a 100% stake in the permit and were due to drill a commitment well before May 2018, a commitment that had already been extended by 12 months. Murphy would seem to be withdrawing from the Australian O&G sector.
Murphy Oil, having checked out the market for a deepwater floater earlier this month, still await internal approval before it proceeds further. The operator is planning a 9-month program is the Patricia field offshore Sarawak for early 2019 in water depths between 1100 and 1500m. Murphy first mooted this program in January 2016 by issuing a market survey for a 6+4 well program to start in the second half on 2017 but the delayed commencement indefinitely. Murphy Oil are evaluating responses to its market survey for either a mat-supported jackup (a rare breed these days) or an independent leg unit [...]
Murphy have been checking the market for a deepwater floater capable of working in 1,100-15,00m water depths for a 9 month charter. Back in September last year they had checked the market for a 6 well drilling campaign in the Patricia field in SK 309 offshore Sarawak. Commencement is not until between Q4 2018 and Q1 2019. Murphy Malaysia have also issued another survey seeking prices and availability of a mat-type jackup or a independent leg unit for a 133 day charter with options of 65 days plus 18 days to commence in Q2 2018. The location is on the [...]
Jackup PV Drilling II has been released by Murphy Oil in Vietnam after completing the first of a 2-well charter, the operator deciding only to drill one well instead of two. Murphy have decided to drill the second well later in the year. The rig is now in Vung Tao preparing for its next charter with Vietsovpetro to begin early June and which will keep it busy until October.
