ConocoPhillips’ tender for a 400ft jackup to drill two (2) platform production wells and a subsea well in the Bayu-Undan field in the JPDA is in the clarification stage with bid evaluations having been completed. Five contractors are understood to have submitted bids, Ensco, Noble, Seadrill, Northern and Transocean. The 270 day program is set to start in April 2018.
After announcing in January that due to drilling efficiencies the 6-well charter by Total in Brunei of Noble jackup Noble Sam Hartley might end earlier in the first half of 2018 instead of the ex-pected January 2019, Noble have now announced that the charter may end even earlier, as early as late 2017 due to continuing drilling efficiencies. The original term was expected to be 3 years to drill the six wells.
PTTEP is readying its Montara field offshore Australia for its short drilling campaign to be under-taken by Noble jackup Noble Tom Prosser set to begin in September, after the rig arrives from the Middle East. Sapura Energy are shortly to complete repair and maintenance work in the Montara field which had included saturation diving and remotely operated vehicle intervention work.
Noble jackup Noble Tom Prosser remains stacked at Lamprell’s yard in Port Khalid as is not due to mobilize to Australia until July/August. The rig has a 60-day charter beginning in September with PTTEP in the Montara field. Noble are optimistic they will be able to find other follow on work for the rig although they do not expect any long term charters. The rig is likely to have been offered to ConocoPhillips for their Bayu-Undan tender also in Australia as well as Quadrant Energy’ tender for a jackup.
