UMW Secures Contract With Repsol Malaysia

Repsol has awarded a contract for the provision of jackup UMW Naga 5 (400'-IC) for one year of work plus a one-year option, covering operations offshore Malaysia. The campaign will begin in mid-September, shortly after the rig completes its current contract with Petrofac offshore Malaysia.

Hess Malaysia Commences Production

Hess has begun gas production from its North Malay Basin Integrated Gas Development project following hookup of the topsides for the central processing platform. The development, in Block PM302, is around 300km offshore the Terengganu Gas Terminal and consists of nine gas fields in an average water depth of 55m. Development involved installation of four wellhead platforms, aside from the central processing platform, intra-field and export pipelines and associated subsea isolation valve skids, a moored floating storage and offloading unit and drilling of 14 shallow production wells. UMW Naga 3 On Location For Petronas

UMW jackup Naga 3 has left KSB supply base in Malaysia and is now on location for Petronas Cari-gali to commence its eight well charter in early August. The rig will first drill in the Samarang field for an estimated 153 days then move onto the Takau Timor block for the remainder of the approxi-mately one year firm charter. PCSB also holds options for a further 5 wells which would keep the rig busy until around April 2019.

Naga 3 and Naga 4 to Commence With Petronas

UMW’s two jackups chartered to Petronas Carigali, Naga 3 and Naga 4, are now expected to begin their contracts before the end of July. Both rigs have been at Kemaman Supply Base undergoing contract preparation. Naga 3 has an 8+2 well charter expected to keep it busy until at least July 2018 and Naga 4, which has just arrived on location to begin its 5 well charter, will be tied up until May 2018.

Petronas Expands UMW Campaign

Petronas Carigali have firmed up some of the options on the two charters for UMW jackups Naga 3 and Naga 4. Naga 3 will now drill 8 wells instead of the earlier announced 5 wells which will equate to about 12 months work. Naga 4, originally contracted for 2+3 wells now has a firm charter of 5 wells. Both rigs are on standby at KSB in Malaysia and due to start their charters in August and July respec-tively.

BP Relocates Discoverer Luanda to Labuan

Labuan is becoming a dumping ground for unwanted UDW floaters. The latest to be mobilized to Malaysia is Transocean’s UDW drillship Discoverer Luanda which is on charter to BP until February 2018. The rig has been dis-patched from Angola in West Africa to be stacked in Labuan to see out its contract, joining seven other UDW units currently idle there. BP has already stacked another UDW floater, Ocean GreatWhite, in Labuan while it seeks work for the rig.

Ophir Production Commences Operations in Malaysia

UMW jackup Naga 2 has begun its 3-well charter with Ophir Production in the Ophir field off Peninsular Malaysia which will keep the rig on charter until August. Partner in the joint venture, Vestigo is holding options on the rig that if exercised would see the rig return to Vestigo after completing the Ophir wells. The other partners in the field are Australian Octanex and Scomi.

Petronas’ Jackup Charters Delayed

UMW’s two most recent charters which were expected to commence this month have now been pushed back to a later start. Both contracts are with Petronas Carigali with that for the Naga 3, for 5 firm wells with 5 well options, now expected to commence in July and the 2+3 well charter for Naga 4 will now commence in August. Both rigs are in KSB preparing for their new assignments.

PCSB Have Now Taken On Their Third And Fourth Jackups

Petronas Carigali in Malaysia have now taken on their third and fourth jackups from local driller UMW. Following on from earlier awards to jackups Naga 6 and Naga 7, PCSB have just awarded a 2+3 well charter to Naga 4 to begin in June and which will carry the rig through to August and potentially into Q4 if the options are exercised. Ophir Production Commences Operations

Vestigo Petroleum has released UMW jackup Naga 2 and the rig is now on location to begin a 3-well charter with Ophir Production offshore Malaysia. This will keep the rig busy until around August. Vestigo, who have equity in Ophir Production and hold options on the rig, are likely to take the rig back after it finishes with Ophir which could see the rig continue until around October. UMW are currently 100% utilized with all seven of their jackups contracted.

Hess To Begin Production In North Malay Basin

Hess is to begin production within the next few months at its North Malay Basin full field development off Peninsular Malaysia. Topsides have already been installed on the central processing platform and is currently being commissioned. The 14th and final well of the Phase I development drilling campaign has been completed by UMW jackup Naga 8 and the FSO is en route to location this month.
